Speaking of Holiday Shopping…

Are you buying any new equipment in the new year? You may want to review the DPR article and stats on what tools dentists own and what they’re buying. Also, it’s a good idea to consider a five key factors before investing in new equipment:

ROI – Return on Investment… Does your practice do enough business to justify the new equipment? For instance, if you place only a few porcelain restorations each week, CEREC may not be the best investment. Sure, it’s cool, but is it practical?

Compatibility… Does the digital equipment you want to purchase work well with your existing technology? A dental practice that runs like a well-oiled machine utilizes technology that has synergy. For instance, if you use a PMP, you’ll want digital radiography and intraoral cameras that integrate well with the system.

All Aboard… Is your team on board with the technology you want, or can you get them motivated to support it? As your front line with patients, your team needs to genuinely believe in the benefits of the technology they will promote. Practical training, as well as marketing training, for your team will go a long way to make your investment successful.

Time for Training… Can you make time to learn how to efficiently and effectively use your new toy? You need to make the most of every investment, dental tools included. Scheduling hands-on training for doctors and team members is best, but online courses are also very helpful.

Marketing and Patient Education… If you purchase new equipment in 2008, make sure that you announce it on your website and in your practice. The more patients know about your service offerings, the more business you’ll have. For instance, if you purchase an in-office whitening system, CEREC, or a laser, don’t keep it a secret. Make sure that your front desk and back office are well-equipped to share the benefits of the procedures with all patients, new and old. You may also want to keep marketing brochures in a highly visible area – like your reception area or beverage bar.
