Pano Math
February 27th, 2007 · No Comments
2000 Patients
1/5 get a pano each year = 400
Every new patient, 2 a week gets a pano = 100
500 panos @ $80 ea. = $42,500 In the first Year!
Good digital panos like the Kodak 8000 can be purchased for less than $30,000. There is no cost for film or developing. Once you have paid for the machine it is almost all profit. That’s over $210,000 over five years.
If you do not have a digital panoramic x-ray machine….why not?

New milling chamber from Cerec
February 27th, 2007 · No Comments
Another new product on display in Chicago was the new milling chamber introduced a few weeks ago by Cerec. Check the link below for more details.
Sirona – The Dental Company – News – Press [1]
MC XL Milling Machine The MC XL mills a quality, precisely fitted restoration in just 4 to 12 minutes, approximately twice as fast as the current CEREC milling unit. MC XL enhances the level of precision and accuracy of CEREC, creating restorations that satisfy even the most critical requirements of dentists. The new milling unit has an easy-to-read, intuitive display, a large milling door for easy access to the milling chamber and automatic block placement. These enhanced capabilities should result in even higher efficiency and profitability for dentists than the current system enables. The original CEREC 3 milling unit continues to be an option for dentists with lower production requirements. Both the MC XL and the original milling unit are compatible with all CEREC 3 units, allowing a smooth transition to the new technology for existing CEREC owners who wish to upgrade.

Lasers Lasers Everywhere
February 27th, 2007 · No Comments
Several vendors introduced new Diode soft tissue lasers at the Chicago midwinter meeting. The coolest looking was the ezlase from Biolase. It looks like a big video iPod. I have been a BIG fan of diodes for many years and use mine [1]
everyday. I highly recommend you look into a diode for your practice. Prices have come down and quality is up.
Welcome to Biolase Technology, Inc. [2]
The new ezlase diode laser includes numerous benefits aimed at providing cleaner cutting and faster hemostasis, with excellent absorption in hemoglobin and oxyhemoglobin. Features include easy-to-use procedure-based presets accessed via an iPod®-like navigation wheel or color touch screen, ultralight fiber and handpiece, innovative low-cost disposable tips, infinite pulse combinations which deliver laser energy by dose, and wireless Bluetooth® foot pedal.

Virtual PBX
February 19th, 2007 · No Comments
If you ran a big company you’d have an expensive PBX (private branch exchange) system to manage extensions, conference calls, and voice mail. For small businesses such as a dental office, a better solution is a virtual PBX. A hosting company provides a main number and then routes all calls through it to other lines, be it a cell phone or a home-office phone abroad. You can also avoid long-distance charges by routing calls via VoIP.
VirtualPBX doesn’t require new hardware and is managed via the Web. The service includes conference calling, caller ID, and more advanced features such as departmental queuing starting at $9.99 a month for three users. There’s also a $25 setup fee and per-minute charges.
