ADA Technical Reports

For the ADA technical Report # 1012 on choosing hardware for the dental office

Computer hardware requirements for dental offices can vary widely due to the large array of high-tech devices available. Recommendations are divided into two categories: A. Dental offices where only patient management software, accounting, spreadsheet and/or word processing software are used; B. Dental offices where high-tech products such as digital x-ray, computer-based intraoral video imaging (intraoral cameras) and/or cosmetic imaging are used. These recommendations are designed to promote standard computer hardware and devices as opposed to proprietary, closed systems, which will most likely increase cost of ownership over time. ADA1012-2003
Other technical reports such as 1029 deal with digital x-rays and photography. # 1023 deals with the DICOM standard

Vizio P50 HDM review by PC Magazine

March 29th, 2006 · No Comments

See the image and read the whole thing here; Vizio P50 HDM review by PC Magazine [1]

Vizio P50 HDM The Vizio P50 HDM is the least expensive 50-inch plasma display I’ve seen to date, and I came away impressed by its good overall picture quality and selection of A/V inputs. Although not perfect, its few flaws are easier to accept knowing that it’s an amazing value for a true high-definition plasma display. $2,599.99
Excellent value. Good image quality with standard and high-definition video. Clean, easy-to-navigate menu system.
Slight banding artifact (false contouring) in dark scenes. Some scaling issues with 1080i video sources.Screen Size (Diagonal): 50 inchesVideo Inputs: Composite, HDMI, S-Video PC Interfaces: Analog VGA Native Resolution: 1366 x 768 pixelsSupported EDTV and HDTV Resolutions: 480i, 480p, 720p, 1080i Rated Maximum Viewing Angle: Horizontal: 170 degreesRated Maximum Viewing Angle: Vertical: 170 degreesIndividual Settings per Input: Yes

A radiography tool that is worth something

March 28th, 2006 · No Comments

Every digital radiography salesman will show potential buyers how their software can colorize an x-ray. WOW does it ever look impressive. How does it help you diagnose dental disease????
It doesn’t, it just looks cool. On the other hand Doug Yoon at XDR has developed some software tools that can really help. For example he has a tool that will automatically correct for any distortion in the image as shown in the examples. Now there is a tool we can use every day.

Dental Practice Optimizer from Sikka Software (www.sikkasoft.com [1]) gathers data from both the practice management system and a financial system like QuickBooks. This data is then analyzed and displayed in easy to understand graphs and comparison charts.
In the past, the alternative has been to gather financial information by hand, send it to an accountant or consultant and then wait several weeks until the numbers were analyzed. And then how did you know how you were doing or how you might compare to the ideal?
With Dental Practice Optimization, in as little as 5 minutes, in you can see all the major business indicators of your dental practice on an easy to use dashboard with red indicating a problem area and green indicating everything is satisfactory?  You can automatically track every aspect of the dental practice, including Fee Schedules, A/R Management, Inventory Management, Supplier, Support, Overhead, Marketing analysis and ROI.
