Power SQUID

January 7th, 2006 · No Comments

One of the interesting (ugly but cool) products at CES was the Power Squid here: Trident Design, LLC. [1]
I am constantly frustrated by bulky plug in transformers hogging all the space on my power strip. Right now I have eight of them under my desk connected to the cable modem (2) speakers, routers, phone chargers and so on. The squid makes all of the outlets from the power strip or surge protector available.

CES was AWESOME!

January 7th, 2006 · No Comments

I am back from the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas. It was huge, taking up four different convention locations. (The entire Las Vegas Convention Center, the Sands Expo, The Hilton Convention Center and the Alexis Park). It was also very crowded (More than 120,000 people). It reminded me a little of Comdex back in the day.
As with Comdex there were lots and lots of new products we will be seeing in the next year or two. The challenge is to figure out which ones will have a place in the dental office. Over the next few days I will tell you about some of the items I found and how they might help in the dental office. Actually in some cases there isn’t much of a dental use but they are so cool I included them anyway.

There are a number of potential causes for this unwelcomed problem. The first is related to an incomplete diffusion of the bonding agent into the evacuated […]

Things Slow In Your Practice????

January 5th, 2006 · No Comments

It is time of the year when in some practices things slow down. I have never really figured out why; maybe because of tax time or maybe it is an after the Holiday lull. There have always been things you can do, chart audits, special discount offers, email reminders of unfinished treatment plans, etc. […]

Client Thank You

January 1st, 2006 · No Comments

Recently on a dental forum a practice was asking about “thank you” gifts for their clients and reasons to give them. It made me stop and think how this little thing is such a great practice builder. Top 10 Tech Transformations of 2005

January 1st, 2006 · No Comments

Some interesting observations  from New Media Musings: [1]

Top 10 Tech Transformations of 2005 Top 10 ways in which technology has impacted our culture during 2005, in no particular order.
1. The edges gain power. From the video and music worlds to politics and culture, power is increasingly flowing away from the media, from the political elites and from the corporate suits and into the hands of ordinary users
 2. Citizens media takes off.
3. The rise of Web 2.0.
4. Google grows into a colossus.
5. Skype hits 50 million users. 6. Social media become a force.
7. Cell phones get smart.
8. Print’s decline accelerates.
9. Podcasting becomes a movement.
10. The power of goodwill.
Honorable mention: Blogging gets big. Yes, blogging already made its impact with the 2004 election, if not before, but blogging achieved mainstream status in 2005 by dint of sheer numbers (over 24 million blogs today) and by its rising up alongside mainstream media as an influential part of the public’s media diet.
