If you missed the 2007 International Robot Exhibition, you may not know that the Kokoro Company has created Simroid, a lifelike robot featuring air-powered muscles, pretty brown eyes, silicone skin with a peaches-and-cream complexion, and wispy black hair. But you’re a dentist. Why should you care? This robot is a little different than R2D2 and Rosie Jetson. Among Simroid’s many human features, she has a gag reflex and sensitive teeth. Simroid is a tool for dental students. When her oral health caregiver causes her pain, she reacts in the same way a patient might, with a flinch and the words, "That hurts!" She can also follow instructions and monitor her dentist’s performance. Check out Simroid here!
