It’s natural, it’s sweet, and it works. University of Washington researchers found that treating toddlers with a topical oral syrup known as xylitol reduces cavities. Xylitol is a sweetener that’s fruit flavored, so the taste isn’t bad, either. A test group showed that about ¾ of children were cavity free after treatment, up from just less than ½ of kids who were not treated with xylitol.
