“Dear Dr Hedge, 

I am a researcher with Tiger Aspect, one of the UK’s leading TV production companies. We are producing a one hour program for the Discovery Network about the state of America’s teeth.

 Although many people in the US are now concerned with improving the aesthetics of their smiles rather than worrying about tooth decay there is still a sizeable constituency of Americans who have developed terrible dental histories and for whom losing their teeth by middle age is simply a fact of life. We want to meet some of these people – for example they could be those who can’t afford the insurance to cover dental care or those who have a phobia of the dentist which has adversely affected their teeth. Maybe they have taken extreme measures to combat their problems like self extraction or partaking in dental tourism to Mexico (this is a story we are particularly interested in).

 We are looking for case studies to drive the program and to that end I am looking for US based people with stories to tell about their terrible oral health. As editor of dentalblogs.com I was wondering whether you may be able to put a message out to all your members to see if anyone can help us finding people (we can’t offer a fee for this unfortunately) with suitable stories.
