The Healthy Balance Breakfast Shake
A healthy breakfast is the most important part of every day. A balance of carbohydrates, protein and good fat is vitally important. You will not be as hungry throughout the morning worrying about how long it is until lunch time.
I got this recipe from Joe Dillon, a fitness and nutrition expert who I heard speak at many dental meetings over the years.
This shake is balanced with good fat in the form of flax seed oil, protein in the form of powdered protein, and carbohydrate in the form of fresh fruit.
Mix the following in a blender:
1 tablespoon of flax seed oil
1 cup of fresh fruit
the equivalent of 30 grams of protein
1/2 cup of water and 4 ice cubes
Flax seed oil may:
lower blood fat levels often associated with heart attacks and strokes
reduce harmful blood cholesterol levels with its soluble fibers
prevent colon and breast cancer through its rich source of lignins, a documented anticancer agent
improve moods, diminish allergies and produce a healthier skin
Flax seed oil is available at Sandy’s Health Foods across the street from our office. Protein powder is available at GNC stores.
