Economics. A Dental Office Design competition sponsored by
MATSCO financial was held in San Francisco on August 11-13th of 2005. The winners will be featured in soon-to-be released issues of Dental
Economics.

The judges were comprised of a veritable who’s who in the dental industry.

Jeff Carter, DDS – cofounder of Ergodontics and Practice Design Group
John Jameson, DDS – chairman of the board of Jameson Management, Inc.
Mary Govoni, CDA, RDH, MBA – Ergonomics and Chairside Effiency – Author/Educator
Virginia Moore – Speaker – Educator, Author of 7 Secrets of a WOW! New Patient Experience
and How to WOW! Rejuvenate Your Practice!:
Debbie Castagna – Speaker – Educator – Lecturer  and co-author of Seven Secrets of a Dynamic New Patient Experience
Joe Fazzio – Dental Equipment Consultant and supplier – Sullivan Schein
Kevin Henry – Managing Editor – Dental Economics

This year’s competition was breathtaking in many ways. The number of entries was greater than ever, the judging criteria has evolved and become more balanced yet more complex, and the sheer volume of beautiful work put in by the contestants is enough to take your breath
away.

The MATSCO organization did an admirable job of monitoring the adjudication process. No judge was allowed to be involved in the scoring process of a practice if it was discovered that the judge had participated or known the practice owner’s prior to the
competition.

The judges were heads down into the entries from early on. The debates and interaction of judging team were fascinating. I think we all learned a lot from each others perspective, but we all agreed on one important thing. A great office design not only achieves the “message” of who you are and what you do, but is ideally balanced architecturally, functionally, technically, and aesthetically. We can’t wait for you to see the winners. 

As one of the judges, I would like to express my appreciation for the tremendous amount of work that the Doctor’s and their team’s put into this
competition.
