Digital Radiographic Solutions

  LearnDigital.. [1] Dr Dale Miles
Dr. Dale Miles has started a radiologic consultation/reporting service for interpretation of Cone Beam datasets for owners of this technology. The service provides oversight for Cone Beam machine owners and reduces the liability of the owner and their referring dental clients by providing a radiographic interpretation of findings in the patient’s volume related to the patient’s airway, temporomandibular joints, paranasal sinuses and other osseous structures including cervical vertebrae visible on larger volumes.
CBCT3D color reconstruction
Radiographic InterpretationIn addition to interpreting the 3-dimensional datasets generated by Cone Beam machines, Dr. Miles also offers consultation on plain film cases.
I have used this service and been very pleased.

Another Amazing 3D Cat Scan

August 17th, 2006 · No Comments

Look here: 3D Accuitomo FPD [1] for details

The high resolution volume rendering technology of the 3D Accuitomo FPD allows you to display images 3-dimensionally. Depending on your area of interest, you can adjust histograms and change settings to obtain high-definition, 3-dimensional images of soft, as well as hard tissue areas.
These images are amazing and are already revolutionizing diagnosis. There is so much data the biggest problem is we don’t know how best to use it all.. Dale Miles [2] offers a new diagnostic service to dentists, he will evaluate your images and provide diagnostic information. And it is all done through the Internet.

Xcpt

July 22nd, 2006 · No Comments

We had a trainer come to the office Wednesday to help us learn to use the new treatment planning software called Xcpt, (pronounced accept). The developer is a periodontist from Florida. He has thought of some nice features. I need to work with it some more to determine if I really like it. The web page is here. [1]
I think some of the features are a bit awkward to use and it is mostly oriented to surgery and implants. You can download a free trial off the web site and try it yourself. Also to be really effective it needs to integrate with practice management software and digital image management including radiography. I also think the fee is hard to justify. In fact the fee is hard to find, I couldn’t find it anywhere on the web site but I believe it is about $6,000.

Florida Probe; Improve Accuracy

June 19th, 2006 · No Comments

Captain Hook, Peter Pan and Tinkerbell all probe the same patient. Looking at the dipstick (probe) they wonder is that tissue over the black line? How much over? “Maybe it’s a three?” says Tinkerbell. “Or a three and a half?” asks Peter. “No”, says the Captain “it’s a four.” He pushes the hardest.
Different operators, with different skills and different “push” levels can’t help but to come up with different measurements.
The Florida Probe uses a carefully calibrated tip to ensure that everyone pushes with exactly the same pressure, 15gm. The instrument then takes a digital measurement accurate to 0.2 mm. All the periodontal findings including bleeding, attachment loss and probe depths are recorded in a digital chart which becomes part of the patient’s electronic record.
The Florida probe also calls out the findings as they are recorded. So the patient hears the computer saying, “Three, two, three, three, four, danger!”
The result is faster, more accurate and more consistent periodontal charting.

ViziLite

June 18th, 2006 · No Comments

Another oral cancer diagnostic using a high tech alternative light source. This one is from Zila, see the web site here: Zila Professional Pharmaceuticals – [1]

ViziLite Plus with TBlue630 is an oral lesion identification and marking system that is used as an adjunct to the conventional head and neck examination. It is comprised of a chemiluminescent light source (ViziLite) to improve the identification of lesions and a blue phenothiazine dye (TBlue630) to mark those lesions identified by ViziLite. ViziLitePlus with TBlue630 is designed to be used in a patient population at increased risk for oral cancer. ViziLite Plus with TBlue630 is:Easy, safe, and non-invasive Takes less than 3 minutes to perform
This system is different than the VELscope. ViziLite is not really an instrument but is a single use system. The cost per use is about $25 and they are sold in lots of 40.
There is an insurance code for the procedure but of course very few plans will cover it.
