Dental erosion, the deterioration of tooth enamel, occurs when teeth are exposed to acidic or abrasive factors, such as carbonated colas, citric acid, and harsh teeth brushing. Ivoclar Vivadent’s Fluor Protector, a fluoride varnish, has been shown to reduce dental erosion, more so than other products. Researchers believe that the fluoride ions released from the varnish directly impacts dental enamel, and there is also a mechanical protection issue, so benefits are twofold.
