Inspektor TC: Dental Plaque Detection at Home

January 15th, 2009 · No Comments

Inspektor TC might be the coolest thing Liverpool has produced since the Beatles. Scientists at the University of Liverpool created the gadget, a light that detects plaque before it’s visible to the naked eye. Use the product in private, though, because you may look like a 1950s sci-fi enthusiast during the process. To see the “hidden” plaque, you must wear yellow-lensed glasses with a red filter and shine a blue light in your mouth. Plaque will glow red in the light. The light can be used in the home as an alternative to those chalky pink tablets.

For children, the elderly, and others prone to gum disease and cavities, Inspektor TC will show the areas of the mouth that aren’t being adequately cleaned in the daily brushing and flossing routine. With tooth decay as the most prevalent disease and children’s caries reaching astronomical levels, the introduction of Inspektor TC is timely and practical. Inspektor Research Systems BV of Amsterdam is responsible for Inspektor TC.
