InChairTV: Improve Patient Comfort and Advertise Services

August 12th, 2008 · No Comments

video glassess for dental officesYour team cares more, works harder, takes more training, and invests more time in your patients. That’s what sets you apart, right? Philosophically and practically, those things are important – essential even. More and more, though, people want to be pampered with technology. They also want to forget they’re in the dentist’s chair. Some dentists offer iPods for personalized music listening; others have noise-cancelling headphones so that patients can listen to music and not hear the dental drill at all. Flat-screen televisions in the operatories are popular right now, expecially because they can pull double duty for patient education and entertainment. InChairTV takes televisions in the ops one step further.

InChairTV consists of a pair of “glasses” or eyewear, if you will, that the patient can wear while you perform dental work. The eyewear (Vizux AV230) displays movies from a mobile, rechargeable DVD player that you rent. A subscription-based service, InChairTV allows you to “rent” movies or television shows, much like the popular Netflix system. However, one advantage of InChairTV is that before the patient’s selected television show or movie begins, a fun 30 to 45-second cartoon commercial about the products and services you wish to promote plays. You can choose ads that will inform the patient about whitening, veneers, implants, and other procedures.

It works like this… You  select three disks, for a total of six televisions shows and a movie, every three months. Simply return your disks in the provided envelope with prepaid postage and you’ll receive your next selections.

It’s  interesting to know that in an ADA study, patients who wore video headsets experienced less stress and allowed procedures be performed faster. One-third of the patients in the study chose to use a video headset at their next visit.

The InChairTV site features a search by zip code so that patients can locate a dentist in their area who offers this cool technology. Learn more about InChairTV here.
