A Link Between Stress and Gum Disease

August 30th, 2007 · No Comments

In 2006, the Journal of Periodontology (JOP) featured an article about a link between chronic stress and increased plaque and gingivitis for caregivers over 50 years. Hypercotisolemia was blamed. This August, JOP published a review that linked stress and periodontal disease without reference to age. Again, increased cortisol was named as the possible connection between stress and gum disease.

The consumer info article was released by the ADA and perio.org: http://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/79225.php, http://www.perio.org/consumer/stress07.htm.

Read the professional study at the JOP website: http://www.joponline.org/doi/abs/10.1902/jop.2007.060371.
