Paperless Tips

January 20th, 2007 · No Comments

Always enter treatment to be done in a treatment plan as soon as it it diagnosed. That makes scheduling much easier. It also allows for cost estimates. Some offices enter tx either at the time of scheduling or worse yet when it is completed.
Create treatments and codes that reflect appointments not just procedures. For example a crown is usually two appointments. The procedure code should be associated with the prep, along with the fee and the clinical notes. However the seat has no procedure code. If you create a code you can then treatment plan the visit, schedule it in a single click and add clinical procedure notes when it is done with a single click.

Business People Liken Stress of Travel to Trip to Dentist, [1]

REDMOND, Wash., Sept. 15, 2003 — A new national survey of business travelers indicates that more than two-thirds of respondents would just as soon spend time in a dentist’s chair as go on their next business trip. The survey, being released today by Microsoft Corp.’s wholly owned subsidiary PlaceWare Inc., also indicates that almost one-fifth of people who routinely travel on the job (five or more times a year) would prefer not to do so at all.

January 18th, 2007 · No Comments

Lightyear [1] has ceased doing business as a dental radiography company. If you have a lightyear system you will need to find alternative sources of support. Suni may support the sensors but has not yet made that commitment. More to come. There is nothing at all on the web site regarding this development and the future of users???

Three Types of Computers and what to pay

January 18th, 2007 · No Comments

Most dental offices will need three different types of computers, a server, business workstations and clinical workstations. Each computer type will have different specifications depending on the job it must do.
Server:  This is the main computer which stores all the data and distributes it to the other workstations. This machine should have a powerful processor, lots of memory and big dual hard drives for storage. It does not need any sound or multi-media capabilities. A server for most dental offices will cost from $3,000 to $3,500.
Business Workstations: These are the front desk stations. These will be the least powerful machines in the office. They have modest processing requirements, need virtually no hard drive storage and do not need sound or multi-media. A business workstation will cost $1,000 or less.
Clinical Workstations: These are the chairside computers and these will need to be much more powerful than the business machines. Chairside computers will be used for patient education, image management, digital radiography, cosmetic imaging, entertainment, intra-oral camera capture and much more. These machines need full multi media capability including sound, CD or DVD, powerful processors and lots of memory. A clinical workstation will cost from $1,800 to $2,200.
