A Pen That’s More Than Meets the Paper
July 6th, 2006 · No Comments
From the – New York Times [1]
A digital pen. The device looks like a slightly plump ballpoint, and works like any ballpoint. But inside this gadget are a tiny camera and an optical sensor that record the pen’s motions as you write, and a microprocessor that digitizes the words, sketches and diagrams that the optics detect.
Read the whole article at the link above. This might be a really great device for adding to digital dental charts.

Turn Off Autoplay
July 5th, 2006 · No Comments
When you put a disc into the PC it sometimes runs a program or brings up a menu asking what you want to do with the files on the disc. This feature is known as Autoplay and it controls what happens when a CD, floppy disk, USB key or portable hard disk is inserted into the computer. If the disk or device contains certain types of file, these will be automatically started when it is inserted.
To temporarily stop this from happening, simply hold down the Shift key on the keyboard at the same time as you are inserting the disc. Release it once the light on the front of the drive has stopped flashing.

Mozy Remote Backup: Free. Automatic. Secure.
July 5th, 2006 · No Comments
Look here Mozy Remote Backup: [1]
Free remote backup is finally here! Download and install Mozy to ensure your data is safely backed up at a secure, remote location.
Mozy is a secure, automatic remote backup service for any PC in any home or office. It’s simple to install and configure. No external hard drive, expensive subscription services, CD’s or DVD’s to burn. All you need is a broadband connection and you are ready to go!
This is a beta product and as such I don’t recommend it as your primary back up for office data. However it is worth looking at for future reference. Also for dental data we need a HIPPA conformant back up.

PC Magazine: Blu-ray vs. HD DVD: What You Need to Know

A product review from PC Magazine: Blu-ray vs. HD DVD: What You Need to Know [1]
Blu-ray vs. HD DVD: What You Need to Know
By Dan Costa It has been a long time coming, but the battle to replace the DVD has finally reached consumers. The consumer electronics industry is attempting to replace the millions of DVD players and DVD-ROM drives across the globe. The problem is it can’t decide which format to replace them with: Blu-ray or HD DVD.
Each format has its own heavyweight industry backing. HD DVD is supported by Toshiba, Intel, and Microsoft. Blu-ray is supported by Samsung, Pioneer, and Sony

By 2008, 90% of all practice to patient communication will be done electronically
July 5th, 2006 · No Comments
Thanks to Linda Miles for the following:
According to Dr. Dov Glazer, CEO and Founder of UAppoint [1], by 2008, 90% of all practice to patient communication will be done electronically”.
UAppoint has a new plan (which interfaces with all the leading softwares), to allow hygiene patients to go online to make and confirm their “reservations” with the hygiene department. And…..to reduce broken appointments, just as the airlines asks passengers to pay in advance to reserve a seat…with a penalty for changed and failed passengers, this is how the new update in UAppoint works. It could revolutionize the failure rate in the hygiene departments across North America.
