Update on Sony “Spy Ware”

November 18th, 2005 · No Comments

 Sony’s sour note | CNET News.com [1]

Sony BMG Music Entertainment finds itself singing the blues this week, after copy protection on many of its CDs struck a sour note on fans’ PCs. The record label will recall millions of CDs that, if played in a consumer’s PC disc drive, will expose the computer to serious security risks. Anyone who has purchased one of the CDs, which include southern rockers Van Zant, Neil Diamond’s latest album and more than 18 others, can exchange the purchase. The company added that it would release details of its CD exchange program “shortly.”

Is Paperless Possible?

November 17th, 2005 · No Comments

Yes, paperless is possible but…………
It is probably not realistic to attempt a completely paperless office, however it is entirely possible and extremely cost effective to start using paperless patient records. In fact when most people talk about a paperless office that is really what they mean; paperless charts and patient records.

Dental Insurance Observation

November 15th, 2005 · No Comments

I have been enjoying the practice of dentistry for almost thirty years. During that time there have been three changes in treatment, which I believe are truly revolutionary. That is they weren’t just improvements on the old ways but dramatically changed what we did for our patients, how we did it and the results we were able to achieve.
These three revolutionary treatments are osseointegrated implants, non-surgical periodontal treatments and bonded esthetic restorations. Interestingly none of these revolutionary treatments is covered by dental insurance.
And of course the typical annual benefit limit of $1,000 hasn’t changed in the last thirty years either.

Nikon Commander and SpeedlightNovember 12th, 2005 | Posted by Tom Hedge Nikon has announced the new remote Speedlight SB-R200 and Command Unit SU-800. Aimed primarily at close-up and macro photography, these small units combine to make a wireless flash system, the SU-800 commander unit can be combined with SB-R200 Speedlight (or other compatible Speedlights) in up to three groups. Nikon is selling these components separately but also as Macro kits, which include one command unit and two SB-R200 SpeedlightsAlthough these are point lights and not a ring, they may solve the problem dentist Nikon photographers have had with the SB 29 ring flash that did not TTL meter with Nikon digital’s. This combination will TTL meter.

Wirelkess Rocks! …..but

November 14th, 2005 · No Comments

Get up to speed with wireless networkingThe latest wireless technologies are all touted as having faster data transfer speeds and greater ranges. Just don’t expect them to work with future devicesNiall Magennis, Computeract!ve 24 Oct 2005
Over the past few years it has become so much easier to set up a wireless network. ………… now that manufacturers have us hooked on wireless, they’re starting to tempt us with new technology that can transmit and receive data at faster rates, over much greater distances. The problem is that, at present, equipment with this new technology doesn’t conform to any official standard. ……………..so if you make the leap before it is ratified, the equipment might not be compatible with networking products released in the future.
Read the whole article from the link above. It is just another reminder that you don’t necessarily want to be the first on the block with the very newest technology.
