I cannot imagine practicing dentistry without the aid of magnification and illumination. I started with 2.0x flip ups and have worked my way up to the 4.8x through the lens fixed magnification. It is unbelievable what you can see that you could not see with the naked eye. I use a pair of loupes from Orascoptic. I augment them with the Zeon Illuminator, a miniature high-intensity fiber-optic light that brightly illuminates anything you are looking at. It is impossible for your assistant to get their head in the way of this light source. www.orascoptic.com.
