New Epson Stylus Photo R2400

July 18th, 2005 · No Comments

I just received the new Epson Stylus Photo R2400 today and I must tell the prints are stunning. This is Epson’s new Ultra Chrome K3 medium format color/black and white printer which replaces the 2200. The street price is excepted to be around 850 dollars. Not cheap considering the Canon i9900 is priced at 499. However for those of us who like to print in black and white this is a printer that deserves your due diligence. Epson has included 3 different black tones to enhance your b& w printing needs. That are labeled light black (aka-medium gray) and light light black (aka-light gray). Unfortunately you have to swap the Matte black with the photoblack when printing glossies however it is worth the effort.

Epson seems to have an answer for its glossy printing problems the 2200 had presented. The bronzing of the black ink (metamerism- colors appearing different at different wavelengths =under different lighting conditions) have been addressed with this new printer. I currently own the large format Epson p4000 (1950 dollars), an unbelievable monster that produces professional laboratory prints second to only the bigger Epson printers. However this smaller version R2400 is an improvement worth the investment over the 2200.

For those dentists ready to make the leap to the next level of printing this printer makes the grade. I would definitely recommend based on the prints I have produced to this point. I will continue to print with it and keep you informed. For anyone interested in sample prints please feel welcome to e-mail me at hooday@apk.net and provide your telephone number and address and I will send you a print of your favorite motif. By the way Epson claims these prints are archival for over 100 years. Not bad considering we wont be around when your prints begin to fade.
